Internet Wx Brief Roadmap

As pilots we need to get beyond the generalizations and simple rules of thumb that we were taught.  We need to work hard to put together an objective analysis of the weather using a method that works every time.  With the number of choices available in the Internet today, this can be a formidable task to even the most seasoned pilot.  It is challenging and involves learning how to use exciting new products that were not available just a few years ago.

What products are best to use when thunderstorms are possible?  What products tell you the most when icing is a concern?  How about forecasts for turbulence?  What about the official forecast products from the NWS?  Is the Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) from the Aviation Weather Center all I ever need?

ADDS is perhaps one of the best web sites dedicated to aviation weather to hit the wire in recent years.  For many low impact flights with little or no adverse weather enroute, a quick peek at ADDS may be all you need to feel confident in your decision to launch.  On the other hand, add a few weather challenges and ADDS will seem a bit underwhelming even for the most experienced pilot.

The solution can be found using the Internet Wx Brief Roadmap.  This step-by-step roadmap can be found in The Weather Report aviation weather forums subscription-based service.  The Roadmap combines several ADDS products with many other unfamiliar or new weather products from various NWS/NOAA organizations.  It will serve as a checklist or guide to walk you through a structured set of web sites to evaluate the location of adverse weather for your planned departure whether it is three days or three hours away.

This CD is more than just a primer.  It contains a detailed explanation of how to use the various weather products referenced within the Internet Wx Brief Roadmap.  Included as part of this training CD is a mock flight that illustrates how to use the Roadmap "in real time."  The mock flight will take you through long-range planning 3 days prior to the departure as well as "nowcasting" a few hours before the departure.
