Crossing the Continental Divide

Crossing the Rocky Mountains any time of the year can be a challenge.  Icing, turbulence and thunderstorms make for a small margin of error when planning a flight across the Continental Divide.  Add a formidable cold front along the route and now you'll require a bit more than blind luck to make a safe flight.

This presentation is narrated by instrument flight instructor and former NWS meteorologist, Scott Dennstaedt.  Join Scott for "Crossing the Continental Divide" as he describes how to use the weather tools prior to departure and monitor updates of the weather while en route using data link satellite weather.

In this presentation, Scott will describe the preflight weather analysis for a proposed flight with a student in a Columbia 400 from Denver, CO (KBJC) to Bend, OR (KBDN) on October 25, 2006.  Coincidentally, during this time the pilot of an SR22 and his family were fatally injured while crossing the same frontal system eastbound about 200 miles south of our flight path.  In addition to the preflight analysis, satellite data link weather data displayed on the Garmin G1000 MFD became an important tool as the weather unfolded in front of us.  If you have a turbocharged or turbo-normalized aircraft, you definitely don't want to miss this one!

Price:  $79.00 (for a limited time)

This CD is more comprehensive than the live session held April 10, 2007.  It contains 90 minutes of training including two bonus sessions containing Scott's own preflight briefings using the Internet Wx Brief Roadmap both captured in WebEx.
